Teachers
Anni Skoglund & Gašper Hrovat
Empathy and kindness are qualities of Anni and Gasper that make them genuinely connect with people, engage with musicians on stage, and always acknowledge your invitation to a dance. They are positive, fun and joyful people to have at your event. Anni and Gasper are swing dancers who especially enjoy to shuffle, Purebal, and add flying lindy into a Balswing. When dancing Slowbal it’s like time stops around them. That moment is the one connecting flow.
Laima Kirsimaa & Andrew Wilson
Andrew brings his enthusiasm and infectious energy to both the dance floor and the classroom. His classes prioritize comfort and conversationality, rooted in the belief that learning is ultimately student-driven. His role, as he sees it, is orchestrating the conditions under which learning can most effectively occur: creating space for productive struggle, fostering a culture of inquiry over passive absorption, and leaving ample time to dance it out and find your own way of doing it.
Laima’s path crossed with swing dancing in 2013, first with Lindy Hop, later she discovered also Balboa, Shag and SlowBal. Additonally, she has been fascinated by Blues.
In Balboa she values most connection and partnership. Laima brings to the dance flow, efficient relaxation and enjoyment of being present, as much as joy of the playing in the music together with partner.
She enjoys sharing her skills and her passion for dance.

Levels
Balboa
Based on your self-assessment, choose the level that best matches your skills, humility, and ambition. Remember that creating a comfortable and supportive atmosphere in class is everyone’s responsibility. Choose a level where you feel you can contribute positively while also challenging yourself appropriately.
I – Intermediate
You have a solid foundation in Balboa basics, including Pure-Bal and Bal-Swing. You’re familiar with Down-hold and Up-hold basic steps (single and double time), Out-Ins, Come-around, Toss-/Throw-out, and Lolly Kicks. You’ve taken classes for at least two years, feel comfortable with medium tempos, and can lead or follow moves like Crab Walks, Side Steps, Paddle Turns, and various Throw Outs.
You are eager to enhance your technique, transitions, flow, and musicality, and work on more complex figures and rhythmical variations.
A – Advanced
You dance Pure-Bal and Bal-Swing comfortably at 175-225 bpm and master a variety of basic and advanced steps, including variations. You regularly attend classes, social dances, and international workshops. You can handle any tempo, from slow to very fast, and quickly learn new moves and footwork. Your dancing incorporates rhythms, shapes, and fancy moves, and you often add styling and variations.
You focus on musicality, partnership, creativity, and continually improve your technique.
NB! There are two Advanced groups at the workshop – Balboa A1 and Balboa A2. These are two groups at the same level. The only difference is the schedule. If you are an advanced Balboa dancer, choose the group that works better for you time-wise.
Slow Balboa level
Slow Balboa classes are open to all levels (except beginners), and you can choose between 2 and 4 classes. There are two Slow Balboa groups at the workshop – SlowBal 1 and SlowBal 2. These are two groups at the same level, but with different class material. SlowBal 1 classes take place on Friday evening, while SlowBal 2 classes take place on Saturday afternoon. Choose the group that suits you better, or join both!
